Assorted Attempts
2012
In order to show the intricate complexity of our documentation of the moon I selected thousands of small documentary fragments and assembled these pieces into spherical forms. In this way the information reverts to become the surface of a sculptural reference to the moon. The spheres hung in a larger half-spherical matrix such that their combination created a larger composite sphere Through this process I not only re-purposed material, but gave it more attention than it was ever meant to receive, trying to distill from these materials, via combination, alteration and metamorphosis, an encapsulation of the experience. With each step closer to this media, the more actual distance is revealed. The product of these actions is not a more complete version of the Lunar landscape, but an illumination of the complexity of our attempts to bridge it.
